About The Job

This position is for a senior project manager in the Distribution IT organization to oversee product development by the vendor. The candidate will manage multiple projects in coordination with business partners to support integration of travel agencies and third parties with American’s NDC platform. The right candidate is expected to be proficient in project management skills and adept at juggling multiple projects at a time. The role requires strong communication and leadership skills for collaboration with technology vendor, third party clients, various business units, project managers, architects and QA analysts to support NDC (New Distribution Capability) initiatives.

 

Specifically, you’ll do the following:

  • Effectively manage multiple projects that have been prioritized by the business unit
  • Support business unit in managing the distribution product
  • Work closely with the technology vendor to submit new Change Requests
  • Effectively communicate technology issues to external clients and vendor

  • Partner with product manager and vendor in backlog grooming, prioritization and other AGILE ceremonies
  • Track KPIs and OKRs to ensure product objectives are being met
  • Facilitate defect and issue management by working with vendor, peers, business unit and other groups involved
  • Facilitate technical workshops and other relevant meetings so issues can be proactively managed and addressed
  • Provide regular updates and reporting to management
  • Track budget and maintain good financial practices
  • Track and manage releases by the vendor
  • Capture changes in Cherwell as the system of record
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • ​​​​​​Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 3 years of progressive broad-based information systems and business experience
  • 3 years of experience managing and delivering mission-critical, high-availability large and small IT development projects using structured project management and system development methodologies
  • Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring teams while leveraging Agile methodologies, with strong focus on continuous improvement and developing self-organizing teams
  • Proficiency in Rally, Planview, VersionOne, or similar Agile life cycle management tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word
  • Excellent leadership skills, team-focused with high energy and a positive attitude
  • Strong analytical, estimating, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to think strategically and develop tactical methods to achieve objectives and goals
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, customers, and external groups, as well as working in a collaborative environment with geographically dispersed resources
  • Broad experience in a variety of computing platforms, such as mainframe, client/server, web, cloud, and social media

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of combined experience in IT project management and other IT disciplines
  • Experience with Sabre PSS, reservations or other customer facing systems
  • Webservice testing using SoapUI and knowledge of XML schemas
  • Experience with AGILE collaboration tools such as Rally, TFS or JIRA
  • Airline Industry experience
  • Certified ScrumMaster or PMP (Project Management Professional) is a plus
  • Ability to explain technical concepts and adjust messaging based on the audience, including non-technical groups
  • Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work well within a team environment, as well as independently
