Job Description

Responsible for user interface (UI) visual and interaction design for all digital channels. Design solutions must be innovative, industry-leading, and align with brand standards and best practices for digital design, including architecture, layout and navigation. Also responsible for creating interactive, functional prototypes for usability testing.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create user centric design solutions that align with digital strategy and company goals
  • Demonstrate user interaction with functional prototypes
  • Work within an agile environment to design user centric applications
  • Design and build functional prototypes for applications across all digital channels that can be tested with customers
  • Monitor UI trends and propose best practices
  • Produce deliverables such as screen layouts, user interface elements, prototypes and final assets
  • Translate usability and field research findings into design improvements
  • Communicate design strategy and UX goals / rationale to key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other teams to develop cross-product design solutions
  • Comprehend, communicate and adhere to American’s visual design standards
  • Attend required meetings and maintain open communication about project status
  • Understand Agile Methodology

Job Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/training
  • At least 5 years’ experience in web-based, front-end user interface design on high-profile websites (e-commerce and / or travel site experience preferred)
  • At least 5 years’ experience with Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator
  • Knowledge of developing functional mockups in Axure, Sketch
  • Knowledge of responsive, adaptive and accessible design
  • Experience with iPhone / Android app design
  • Must be well organized, thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment, leverage best practices, and most importantly, innovate through any problem with a can-do attitude
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to effectively interact at all levels within the organization
