Job Description

The Compliance Specialist conducts in-depth investigations and process reviews in order to evaluate system deficiencies as related to AA’s Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program (CAMP) compliance with the CFRs. This role is crucial in supporting and maintaining the safety and compliance of the airline operation. Investigations will focus on identifying opportunities to correct program/systemic issues associated with Engineering, Planning, Records, etc. This position will frequently interface with the FAA, including communicating compliance matters.     



  • Complete investigations/assignments timely and accurately
  • Manage visits from regulatory agencies
  • Collaborate with the FAA to resolve compliance concerns
  • Develop corrective actions through collaboration with Engineering, Planning, Records, etc.
  • Conduct strategic departmental evaluations to identify risk and establish robust processes and procedures
  • Collect, analyze and distribute compliance and safety performance information
  • Build relationships and coordinates cross-functionally with all AA maintenance departments
  • Serve as consultant or advocate on specialized compliance and other programs or projects
  • Develop, encourage, and insist upon a culture of safety, compliance, and client satisfaction
  • Support team members when appropriate
  • Apply Safety Management Systems (SMS) to mitigate risk
  • Present to various departments and levels of management



  • Quality of investigations
  • Satisfactory levels of compliance supported by operating department safety performance
  • Quality of relationships between compliance management, FAA and supporting departments

Job Qualifications

  • BS degree from an accredited college/university in engineering disciplines such as aeronautical/aerospace/mechanical/electrical or at least five (5) years of experience with programs associated with supporting the CAMP
  • The candidate shall be a self-motivated person that has the ability to identify causes and develop solutions using resources at hand, then implement and coordinate the solutions with multiple departments and work skills even under challenging conditions
  • Excellent analytical, communication, planning and organizational skills required.
  • Prefer candidates with 3 to 5 years working history as engineer with aircraft systems/components or related experience
  • Knowledge of American Airlines (AA) Technical Operations policies and procedures
  • Six Sigma training in preferred
  • Existing positive relationship with the FAA
  • Knowledge of CFRs, Airworthiness Directives (ADs), SMS and other applicable regulations pertaining to aircraft maintenance, repair and engineering
  • Knowledge of human factors and the impact to safety
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels, both verbally and written
