  • This job is a member of the Human Performance Team within the Safety Division.
  • The Analyst, Human Performance is responsible to support the integration of Human Performance in American’s Safety Management Systems through analysis of existing data streams, identification of enhancement strategies, and development of  behavioral communication and training for team members. 
  •  The Human Performance team will focus on the human; not only how we relate to our environment but how we can thrive in our environment.  With the Human Performance team as a part of the Safety Division, it will allow the team to work with many stakeholders in enhancing AA’s current safety culture and equipping our team members with the skills to adapt to a challenging and ever-changing environment.  The ideal candidate is someone who is curious about how humans think, act, react, and interact with our environments and each other, are flexible and comfortable with changing directions and goals, enjoy a challenge, and like to find new ways to improve our environment and abilities.

What you'll do

  • Evaluates trends identified in existing data streams and evaluate potential mitigations from the human performance perspective
  • Supports analysis of current data sets that have identified a potential drift in standard operating procedures and assist with mitigation plan development that prevents further escalation of risk and escapes in regulatory compliance
  • Develops initial and continuation training programs for our various operational groups that help identify negative and positive behaviors in the workplace and how they may contribute to or prevent accidents and incidents
  • Assists with the development of communication tools and techniques that drive safety messaging deeper into our varied and diverse work force
  • Supplements the SMS process in each work groups to include participation in investigations, ASAP debriefings and data analysis groups
  • Coordinates with frontline, regulatory, and union leaders develop strategies that drive a positive safety culture across the airline

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience or related Psychology field
  • 3 years of relevant work experience, applicable school experience or Master’s degree


Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Formal safety management training, accident investigation training, or prior management experience working within a 14 CFR Part 121 safety programs
  • Experience in aviation operations
  • Knowledge of airline maintenance, flight operations, dispatch, cabin operations, ground operations and commercial aviation regulations desired
  • Knowledge of aviation reporting systems, safety principles, and Just Culture
  • Experience in human fatigue studies, human factors studies, or safety case studies
  • Experience working collaboratively with other operational, regulatory, and union groups
  • Experience with the analysis and trending of safety data

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Working knowledge of regulations, standards, and guidance material related to Human Factors
  • Ability to conduct or support data and/or statistical analyses
  • Ability to learn and understand new software in detail
  • Strong organization, analytical and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to multi-task with changing priorities
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and assertiveness
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Valid Passport or equivalent travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
