  • American Airlines is seeking a motivated, energetic Curriculum Designer to join the Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) team at the Flight Academy in Fort Worth, TX.
  • Being a part of the Flight Training & Standards organization means that you will contribute to successfully training over 13,000 of the world’s safest pilots. You’ll do this through assisting in American’s data collection and analysis needed to continuously improve all pilot training programs. This position reports to the Manager, Advanced Qualification Program (AQP).
  • This role is a part of the Advanced Qualification Program team within our Flight group.

What you'll do

  • Perform regular audits of all AQP material for compliance with various company and/or regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate to assess safety risks associated with proposed changes in accordance with American Airlines’ Safety Management System (SMS) process
  • Interface with the Safety Department to identify trends in pilot training related to line operations safety data
  • Download raw pilot training performance data, pre-process, and then load into a data warehouse for later analysis
  • Analyze pilot training performance data, summarize data findings, and communicate findings to stakeholders (training management, safety department, etc.) using dashboards, interactive data visualizations, reports, and presentations
  • Develop and deploy pilot training performance assessments and feedback surveys
  • Produce ad-hoc pilot training performance reports on request
  • Provide production support for the Advanced Qualification Program (AQP)

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business analytics, aviation safety, instructional systems design, marketing, data science, psychology, a similar field, or equivalent experience/training
  • 3+ years of experience in: aviation safety analytics, pilot training analytics, aviation instructional systems design, business analytics, data science or relevant experience
  • Experience developing and publishing dashboards in Power BI Desktop and creating reports in Power BI Report Builder
  • Demonstrated ability in determining trends using data analysis and/or business intelligence
  • Intermediate knowledge in programming languages such as SQL, R, and/or Python

 

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master’s degree in business analytics, aviation safety, instructional systems design, marketing, data science, psychology, or similar program
  • 5+ years of experience in business analytics, pilot training analytics, or aviation safety analytics
  • 1+ years working for a 14 CFR Part 121 airline flight training, flight safety, or flight operations department as an analyst, or providing data analytics for those departments
  • Background working with platforms including Teradata, Tableau, Databricks and Azure Data Lake Storage
  • Prior experience in migrating to Power BI would be a plus
     

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic SQL query functions to select, aggregate, and sort data
  • Demonstrated ability to use data visualization software, such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau Desktop
  • Experience with text mining in R and/or Python (e.g., text categorization and sentiment analysis)
