  • The Investigator/Sr Investigator, Air Safety reports to the Manager, Safety Investigations and functions as a member of the Safety Investigations Team. In that capacity, the Investigator/Sr Investigator, Air Safety will back up the Safety Investigations team leadership for all and NTSB on call duties.

What you'll do

  •  Reviews operational reports to identify incidents and irregularities requiring follow-up investigation.
  •  Conducts internal and external investigations and analysis of operational events and provides investigative analysis and responses to internal AA departments, as well as the NTSB, FAA, and other agencies, as applicable.
  •  Assists the ASAP programs with investigations, irregularities and trends identified through the programs and provide briefings to the ASAP ERC of investigative findings and recommendations.
  •  Produces, presents, and tracks safety investigation team analysis reports and corrective action plans to diverse audiences. Identifies trends and Safety concerns arising from the ASAP program.
  •  Administrates the Safety Go-Team; including training, inventory, and execution of responsibilities assigned by the Safety Investigations team leadership, as well as the Emergency Planning and Response Safety Departmental Resource Guide.
  •  Assists the American Airlines Party Coordinator during NTSB and other regulatory entities during domestic and/or international investigations.
  •  Must be able to travel worldwide on short notice and serve in a 24/7 on-call status.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in aviation safety, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Completion of an accredited training course in safety that includes accident investigation procedures and technique
  • 4 years of related experience

Skills, Licenses & Certifications
•    At least one of the following Licenses:
o    Commercial Pilot 
o    Dispatcher
o    Airframe and Powerplant
•    Must possess and maintain a valid US passport
•    Understanding of the operational departments of a Part 121 major air carrier, including Flight Operations, Technical Operations, Flight Service, Airport Customer Service, and Emergency Response
•    Understanding of the role of an aviation safety department at a Part 121 major air carrier
•    Possess a detailed understanding of NTSB accident/incident investigation procedures and techniques
•    Ability to efficiently and effectively investigate major air carrier accidents and incidents
•    Ability to write clear and concise technical reports and articles
•    Ability to work effectively with fellow employees as well as outside agencies and organizations
•    Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information
•    Must be skilled in the use of MS Office (with advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint), SABRE, CERS, and WBAT, Tableau or similar complex database systems
•    Well-organized and able to prioritize tasks and manage crisis situations
•    Must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as a team member
•    Must possess outstanding decision-making abilities, organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
