  • The role is a part of the Flight Communications team within our Integrated Operations - Flight group. 
  • This position will work directly with various members of Flight department leadership. They must be comfortable working closely with leadership and frontline employees as these messages range from Vice President communications to operational emergencies to basic company business.

What you'll do

  • Produces and updates collateral for new hire pilot orientation (registration materials and process, handouts, presentations, base packets)
  • Shared responsibility in prep work and instruction before, during and after new hire pilot orientation – manages class logistics, leads class to ensure all necessary flight-centric topics are covered
  • Drafts communications from VP Flight, Flight MDs and other leaders as needed
  • Edits and publishes operational messages as needed, coordinating with other departments as required (24/7)
  • Provides input and support for communication strategies established by Flight leadership for differing topics
  • Produces regular publications (weekly operational reviews, hotlines and podcasts, monthly newsletter and other ad hoc media)
  • Supports local base communications 
  • Assists with communication and coordination of community involvement initiatives (Women in Aviation, Snowball Express, Skyball)
  • Maintains and updates AAPilots website
  • Coordinates communications between Headquarters, the Training Facilities, Flight Offices and pilots
  • Assists with promoting and working monthly Crew News sessions
  • Participates in quarterly company-wide drills to maintain emergency response readiness 
  • Co-leads efforts with APA around CIRP (Critical Incident Response)
  • Interacts daily with pilots and managers to address issues and individual requests
     

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 3 years of related experience

 

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • 4 years of related experience
  • Experience working with crewmembers

 

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of American Airlines operations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software and Adobe Creative Cloud 
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Capable of creating and modifying images in Adobe Photoshop
  • Ability to manage multiple, high-priority projects
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours as needed
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent problem solving skills and desire to research issues to determine root causes
  • High level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information
  • HTML experience a plus
