- This job is a member of the Operations Research and Advanced Analytics (OR&AA) team. Positioned within the Information Technology organization, the OR&AA team at American Airlines has a long history of being on the leading edge of analytics in the airline domain. Today our diverse team of passionate analytics professionals supports decision making across the airline, including pricing and revenue management, fleet and network optimization, crew and flight scheduling, airport and maintenance operations and customer/social media analytics.
- As a Technical Product Owner, you will lead the strategy, vision, and execution of complex, enterprise-scale technical products and platforms. Your role will focus on delivering scalable, sustainable, and value-driven solutions that support enterprise-wide initiatives. As a senior leader, you will provide thought leadership across product and engineering teams, mentor other Product Owners, and help shape the future of our technical product ecosystem.

- Work closely with senior leadership to set strategic goals, ensure alignment with corporate objectives, and execute on strategic initiatives, and assist in the execution and tracking of OR&AA’s strategic roadmap
- Lead backlog refinement and prioritization for technical features and application enhancements
- Gather insights from internal users and stakeholders to identify pain points and opportunities to translate feedback into actionable technical solutions
- Identify and manage product-level risks, develop mitigation strategies, and track issues to resolution
- Define and track product KPIs and OKRs that measure application performance, reliability, and business impact.
- Partner with engineering, architecture, and design teams to ensure successful delivery of technical products and facilitate decision-making and remove roadblocks
- Ensure technical products align with architectural standards, enterprise priorities, and long-term strategic goals. Make trade-offs that optimize for scalability and sustainability
- Apply AI techniques to automate processes and improve productivity
- Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices. Drive innovation in technical product offerings
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in an Agile environment or technical product management.
- Proven experience working in Agile environments and collaborating with engineering and architecture teams.
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- 4+ years of experience in product ownership or technical product management.
- Proficiency in SQL and data visualization (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Familiarity with data science, machine learning, AI, statistics, or optimization modeling is desirable.
- Domain knowledge in the airline industry or related fields is highly desirable.
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- Relevant certifications in Product Management/Project Management
- Engineering & architecture fluency - Understands how applications are built and run; can read code, APIs, and architecture diagrams; frames tradeoffs across cloud, networking, data, reliability/observability, and security to inform product decisions; influences technical direction without owning day to day coding.
- Platform/shared service productization - Treats shared service capabilities as products with clear value propositions, service catalogs, and lifecycle plans; defines and stewards SLOs/SLAs, capacity and reliability objectives.
- Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., Github Copilot, Claude Code, Copilot Studio, ChatGPT).
- Prompt Engineering for effective use of AI tools.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term technical vision
- Experience defining and tracking technical OKRs and KPIs.
- Analytical mindset with ability to analyze data and provide actionable recommendations and meaningful insights.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing priorities.
