The User Experience (UX) team is within the Digital Platform and User Experience group and is part of the Information Technology (IT) organization. We are structured in a Portfolio and Product based culture, and we are looking for a design thinking coach to scale an enterprise design thinking practice at American Airlines.
  • The Design Thinking Coach has a passion for human-centric experiences. You’ll wear many hats (coach, instructor, facilitator, strategist, collaborator, evangelist) and will use your knowledge and skills in human-centered problem solving for a wide variety of problems within American.
  • You will scale and contribute to an enterprise design thinking practice and help American maintain a human-centered approach to enterprise transformation for delivering value to its customers and employees.

What you'll do

  • Support strategy, efforts, and processes to scale design thinking as an enterprise practice
  • Evangelize and articulate the value of design thinking at organizational and enterprise levels
  • Develop case studies driving awareness of the impact of design thinking on our customers and employees
  • Continuously evolve our design thinking playbook with design thinking materials, facilitation tips and best practices for the enterprise
  • Create communications and presentations to effectively communicate design thinking materials, events and news to the enterprise
  • Teach and mentor employees as design thinking practitioners and instructors across the enterprise
  • Apply deep experience with design thinking to support the design thinking community of practice at American with coaching and facilitation needs
  • Lead and facilitate design thinking sessions and workshops for large cross-functional teams with enthusiasm, professionalism, and the ability to navigate complex challenges

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • 5 years of professional experience at large enterprises or highly matrixed organizations in applied design thinking roles, such as a change agent, experience strategist, lean product expert, or facilitator
  • Established leader / role model and enthusiasm for design thinking, human-centered design, user experience design, product design, or product management

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Business, Design, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Human-Computer Interaction, Product Design, Product Management, Psychology, User Experience, or related field
  • 7+ years of professional experience at large enterprises or highly matrixed organizations in applied design thinking roles, such as a change agent, experience strategist, lean product expert, or facilitator
  • LUMA Institute Certified Practitioner
  • LUMA Institute Certified Facilitator
  • Experience with communications and marketing
  • Experience with portfolio and product-based work environment
  • Experience working in the aviation industry

  • Certification in design thinking
  • Exceptional leadership, facilitation, collaboration, presentation, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to move seamlessly between different design thinking techniques and methods depending on the situation and timeline
  • Ability to think critically and work in quick-paced environments with desire to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to respond resourcefully and constructively to new demands, priorities, and challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to take on a variety of different tasks simultaneously
  • Is organized, thorough, and enjoys keeping tracking of a lot of information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
