  • ​This job is a member of the Customs Compliance Team within the Integrated Operations Division.

  • Performs day to day entry analysis to ensure American Airlines (AA) meets Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) Importer Self-Assessment (ISA) requirements which is governed by the Code of Federal Regulations CFR 19
  • Performs daily Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), Schedule B and ECCN classifications for the operations of AA
  • Updates and maintains customs compliance desktop procedures and department manual
  • Educates and trains internal customers on importation and exportation requirements
  • Works closely with internal departments and vendors all over the world to provide customs compliance regulatory information in a timely manner to customs brokers for clearance of goods
  • Maintains Import and Export email inboxes and directs questions and responses to the proper entities timely
  • Identifies and addresses all partner government agency regulations for imported merchandise (i.e. FDA/FCC/EPA/etc.)
  • Performs pre- and post-entry audits
  • Makes corrections as required
  • Responds to inquiries from customs brokers
  • Timely resolves problems with import and export shipments
  • Confirms compliance and efficacy of corporate and departmental policies
  • Coordinates internal departmental audits
  • Ensures all Importer Security Filings (ISF) for inbound ocean freight are submitted by the customs broker accurately and timely

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • 3+ years or relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • ​Experience in supply chain, logistics, hazardous materials, in-flight products, or aviation maintenance
  • Experience in SABRE, SCEPTRE, DECS, IMS, AAPICS, SAP and Ipayables
  • United States Licensed Customs Broker

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Familiarity with the harmonized tariff schedule of the United States (HTS), CROSS rulings, and explanatory notes to determine HTS numbers.
  • Knowledge of ISA, CTPAT, ACE, civil aircraft exemption, and other CBP programs.
  • Knowledge of FDA, USDA, EPA, DOT and other governmental agency requirements.
  • Candidate must be very detail oriented, and possess excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills to represent the AA Customs Department with CBP, brokers, and other departments within AA.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, follow-up and follow-through skills
  • Must have proficient computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Must be a self-starter with a high sense of urgency, strong organizational skills, and ability to multi-task with a high volume of work
  • Must be willing to continuously update knowledge, skills, and abilities in the customs compliance industry
  • Must have strong work ethic and highest level of integrity
