About The Job

This position is responsible for providing direct supervision to Planners regarding company policy/procedures. Coordinates with Maintenance, Maintenance Control, Technical Purchasing, Vendor Administration, Warehousing and other Technical Operation Departments to manage material shortages related to out of service, work stoppage and critical aircraft. This job also ensures Planners are effectively managing material requirements, locating, securing and shipping with consideration for location, material suppliers, cost, and transportation alternatives to support the out of service or work stoppage aircraft.

Specifically, you will do the following:

  • Provides leadership, direction, and development to planners towards achievement of commodity/fleet/project goals & business objectives  and  ensures they are accountable for their duties, responsibilities, and actions to identify, communicate, and solve problems within the area & assists with defining the strategy, goals, objectives and requirements for the departments
  • Ensures Planners are determining the most effective actions to route aircraft materials in the event of material failure under strict time limitations while promoting serviceability, airworthiness and effective distribution of spares
  • Advises employees of all procedural changes and gives information relating to their job by use of team meetings & responsible for on-the-job training of employees and recommends and/or implements work simplification systems
  • Administers the Collective Bargaining Agreement & promotes harmonious working relationships within the department.

  • Serves as a focal point and collaborates with cross functional teams and management groups to identify and analyze project/commodity needs; develops and implements inventory strategies/contingency plans within project scope to align with operational goals & Annual Budget Forecast
  • Applies analytical modeling and data optimizing methods to develop demand/supply forecast and interpret information to assist management with decision making, growth evaluations, and other managerial functions that will align with AA's financial objectives
  • Analyzes data derived from various areas such as booking activity, fleet analysis, ROI analysis, performance & budget analysis, using tools like forecasting, mathematical programming, simulation and decision analysis to develop strategies for revenue and commodity/operations optimization
  • Performs validation of models to ensure data adequacy and refines data requirements applying judgment and statistical tests for improvement of commodity
  • Develops and evaluates operational performance improvement initiatives and commodity service level support benchmarks by effectively maintaining and enhancing various forecast models
  • Responsible for project planning, scheduling, tracking, managing costs, identifing opportunities for process improvement, implementation, and driving projects to completion to achieve targeted goals through measurable metrics
  • Uses IT-based project management techniques, including process mapping and documentation
  • Reports commodity/project/program performance indicators and evaluates risk mitigation, to plan and implement contingency strategy and keep management up to date with status, risks and issues
  • Creates reports on a wide range of strategic and tactical analysis / projects outlining key business drivers  using tools like MS Visio, MS Project, MS Office, MS SharePoint, Structured Query Language (SQL), SAP, Sabre, and SCEPTRE

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience/training
  • 3 years experience in Supply Chain/Warehousing/Transportation
