  • The Kubernetes Tech Lead contributes to American Airlines’ Kubernetes as a Service platforms. You'll work alongside architects, partner with a variety of different IT and security groups to solve problems related to observability, availability and resiliency, and provide senior level platform engineering services, including the direction, evaluation, selection, configuration, implementation, and integration of new tools and technologies.

What you'll do

  • Collaborate with peers to develops strategic solutions that align with the business objectives and architectural direction of the organization. Works closely with technical product owner and architects to ensure decisions meet long-term enterprise growth needs 
  • Builds, leverages, and maintains effective alliances across technical and business community
  • Proactively identify ways to improve and optimize the entire environment, through tactical recommendations and strategic plans 
  • Guide application teams to implement and transition applications to the new modern Kubernetes platform
  • Interacts with customers, vendors and leadership to achieve effective, strategic, and fiscally responsible results
  • Provides technical expertise and completes complex development, design, implementation, architecture design specification, and maintenance activities 
  • Communicate with key stakeholders on project issues and implications 
  • Maintain a current and working knowledge of IT development methodology, architecture design, and technical standards
  • Troubleshoots and debugs complex issues; identifies and implements solutions
  • Researches and implements new technologies to enhance current processes, security, and performance
  • Research and evaluating tooling options, open source first
  • Follow DevOps best practice 
  • Coach other developers and engineers on the team

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 8 year working experience as a technology professional
  • 3+ years of platform operation experience

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • Microsoft Azure Certifications 
  • Kubernetes Technical Certifications 
  • 2+ years of Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) with deep understanding of Container Orchestration and Distributed System Concepts
  • 2+ years of experience implementing infrastructure as code

 

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Proficient in a wide variety of cloud native services and to an extent able to consult the others 
  • Understanding of observability, what are the key metrics to monitor and how to establish a monitoring foundation  
  • Advocate and influence “do the right thing”
  • Advanced ability to plan strategically for current and future business environments, including future technology and business design changes to create flexible, scalable solutions
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and implement solutions and/or workarounds
  • Ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously with a keen desire to learn and expand depth of knowledge
  • Ability to thrive in a sense-of-urgency environment and leverage best practices
  • Demonstrated experience in the following
    • Public Cloud methodologies (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), automation, orchestration, trends, and industry-leading cloud vendor offerings
    • Docker container and Kubernetes
    • Relational databases. Familiarity with database technology such as PostgreSQL, MySQL.
    • Strong knowledge of network theory, rules, practices, and principles.
    • Demonstrated ability to create automated processes using well-known languages and frameworks such as Terraform, Python, YAML, API
    • Knowledge of Active Directory
    • Utilizing CI/CD pipeline automation in tools. GitHub/GitHub Actions is a preferred.
  • Experience in Agile methodologies, such as SCRUM 
  • A team player and technical coach who works and communicates well with both technical and non-technical personal
