The Specialist/Sr Specialist, Inflight Communications is part of Global Engagement, a dynamic and collaborative team that helps shape the company’s actions, along with its engagement with internal and external stakeholders, to help build and protect the American Airlines brand and reputation. Specifically, this individual is responsible for developing, delivering and increasing the effectiveness of communications to over 28,000+ flight attendants.

What you'll do

  • Develops and executes communication campaigns to engage employees, leveraging existing channels in innovative and collaborative ways.
  • Writes and edits compelling content for various internal channels under tight deadlines, ensuring alignment with American’s editorial style and tone.
  • Manages communication across multiple platforms, including digital/web, email, internal systems and social media to keep remote team members and leadership informed on critical updates, policies and commercial changes (e.g. in-flight dining, retail, entertainment and loyalty programs) such as in-flight dining, retail, entertainment and loyalty programs.
  • Creates engaging multimedia content, including video, internal websites, podcasts and social media to enhance storytelling and employee engagement.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership team and various business units throughout the airline to ensure consistent, impactful messaging that highlights key initiatives.
  • Translates complex information into clear, digestible content, using  PowerPoint, graphics, eBoards and other visual formats in an approachable, conversational tone.
  • Advises and coordinates communications strategies across multiple workgroups, fostering relationships with departmental communications leads.
  • Leads large scale special projects, driving execution and alignment across teams.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations or Strategic Communications or equivalent experience/training

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • 2 years related professional experience in journalism and/or strategic communications
  • Mastery of AP style

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Must be able to thrive under tight deadlines, supporting a 24/7 operation
  • Experience in supporting a unionized workgroup and applicable department leaders
  • Experience operating video and audio equipment
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud products, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop or similar editing tools
  • Experience in developing infographics
  • Ability to use web publishing and content management systems, including basic knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint to develop presentations for executives and other leaders
  • Ability to use PC (Windows) and Apple (Mac and iOS) products
  • Ability to strategize and execute challenging projects on deadline and on budget
  • Ability to delve into complex business issues and explain them to frontline team members in a clear, understandable way
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
